Working with the semi-unpredictable nature of film, I move intuitively with my subjects—often women in hyper-feminine or surreal settings—to capture moments of reflection, joy, and anguish. I use universal symbols to evoke grief, sensuality, comfort, and bitterness, allowing subject and symbol to mirror each other. Each image invites pause, encouraging viewers to be present and question familiar thought patterns. Through photography, I explore how far into the obscure I can go while still evoking a sense of recognition in women. What does it mean that we see ourselves in everything—and do we do so just to avoid feeling left out?
